Match update: Mumbai thrashed Chennai by 219 runs, Pollard's explosive performance

In the IPL match which started in Delhi, Mumbai overcame the score set by Chennai on the strength of Pollard's explosive 87 runs. Mumbai finally won the match which lasted till the last ball. Along with Pollard, Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Krunal and Hardik Pandya also contributed to the run. The Mumbai openers got off to a good start as they chased down 2019 runs. Rohit Sharma scored 35 off 24 balls. Suryakumar Yadav, who came after Rohit's dismissal, was also dismissed for 3 runs. Quinton de Kock scored 38 off 28 balls. Pollard and Krunal Pandya saved the innings while Mumbai were in trouble.

Pollard showed his mettle by hitting the fastest half-century in this year's IPL in just 17 balls. He was well supported by Krunal with 32 runs. Hardik Pandya, who came in after Krunal's dismissal, also hit 16 off seven balls.

In the last over, Mumbai needed 16 runs to win. Pollard hit a four off the second ball of the NGD over. Pollard also hit a four off the third ball. No run scored on the fourth ball. Pollard hit a brilliant six off the fifth ball. Two runs were needed on the last ball. Pollard sealed Mumbai's victory with two runs off the ball. Pollard hit 87 off 34 balls with eight sixes and six fours.

Earlier, Mumbai won the toss and elected to bowl first. Chennai had challenged Mumbai for 219 runs. Chennai lost four wickets and scored 218 runs on the strength of brilliant half-centuries by Ambati Rayudu, Moin Ali and Faf du Plessis. Chennai did not start well. Opener Rituraj Gaikwad was dismissed for 4 runs.

Moin Khan, who came next, played well with Faf du Plessis. Moin Ali scored 58 off 36 balls. He hit five fours and five sixes. Faf Doo scored 50 off 28 balls. He hit 4 sixes and 2 fours. Suresh Raina, who came after him, could score only 2 runs. But Ambati Rayudu washed out the Mumbai bowlers.

Ambati Rayudu completed 50 off just twenty balls. He hit an unbeaten 72 off 27 balls with seven sixes and four fours. He was well supported by Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 22.
