On 4th May 2021, Actress Kangana Ranaut Twitter was permanently suspended after a series of tweets were made by the actress in reaction to the recent events in West Bengal. The actress said in her tweet, After West Bengal assembly election results, the Bhartiya Janta Party’s supporters are being targeted. The actress also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to show his “Virat Roop” from the early 2000s to “Tame her” about Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee.
These tweets caused outrage among the people. Enraged masses started calling out on Kangana’s insensitive tweets and encouraging violence.
The Twitter spokesperson also stated,
"We enforce the Twitter Rules judiciously and impartially for everyone on
our service." “As explained in our abusive behavior policy, you may not
engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so,”
the social media platform said. “We consider abusive behavior an attempt to
harass, intimidate, or silence someone else’s voice.”
This isn’t the first time the actress has created controversy with her tweets, in January her account was made read-only mode as a few of her tweets encouraged hatred and violence. After a few days, Twitter had to remove a few of her tweets after the actress started calling out on Rihanna for her comment on Farmers Protest.
After repeated warnings and temporary restrictions put on her account, Twitter on Tuesday 4th May permanently suspended Kangana Ranaut’s account. This action by Twitter is celebrated as “A delayed reaction by Twitter” by many social media users.
