The total tally of COVID-19 cases in the country have climbed to 2,02,82,833. Registering a steady increase, the active cases have increased to 34,47,133 comprising 17 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 81.91 percent, the data updated at 8 am showed.
India's total COVID-19 infections had surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19 after which it took 107 days to reach 1.25 crore on April 5. However, it only took 15 days for the cases to cross the 1.50 mark. The top five states which have registered the maximum cases over the past 24 hours are Maharashtra with 48,621 cases, followed by Karnataka with 44,438 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 29,052 cases, Kerala with 26,011 cases and Tamil Nadu with 20,952 cases. The country accounted for one in every three daily deaths in the world due to the coronavirus on Sunday.
"The total
number of Covid - 19 samples tested up to August 02 is 2,02,02,858 including
3,81,027 samples tested yesterday", said the ICMR in a bulletin shared on
Twitter.
